Your 7 Night Yucatán Itinerary with Pixel Expeditions

Day 1: Arrival in Bacalar – Lagoon Welcome

Your Yucatán adventure begins with a warm greeting at Tulum Airport before heading south to Bacalar, famous for its dazzling “Lagoon of Seven Colours.” After checking in, take some time to relax and soak in the atmosphere. In the evening, join your group for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, where traditional Yucatecan dishes set the tone for a journey filled with flavour and discovery.

Day 2: Birding & Bacalar Lagoon – Journey to Xpujil

We begin your Yucatán adventure with birding, across the tranquil waters of Bacalar lagoon. Whether by kayak or boat, you’ll glide across still waters as herons, cormorants, and kingfishers dart through the reeds. After a relaxed lunch in Bacalar, the adventure shifts inland as you transfer to Xpujil, gateway to Campeche’s archaeological treasures. Expect rustic charm, star-filled skies, and the sense of being on the edge of something ancient and untamed.

Day 3: Calakmul Ruins & Wildlife – Evening in Campeche

Today is a highlight of your Yucatán Mexico trip: Calakmul. Hidden deep within the jungle close to the Guatemalan border, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is both an archaeological wonder and a thriving wildlife reserve. Towering pyramids emerge from the dense canopy, offering sweeping views across endless green. Keep an eye out for spider monkeys, toucans, and with who knows, maybe tracks of the elusive jaguar. You’ll then transfer to Campeche where you can stroll the city’s illuminated walls and enjoy a relaxed dinner in this colourful colonial port.

Day 4: Campeche Stroll – Uxmal & Sunset in Celestún

Today begins with a morning walking tour of Campeche’s UNESCO-listed historic centre, where pastel facades, cobblestone streets, and fortified walls whisper stories of pirates and Spanish settlers. Afterward, continue to Uxmal, one of the Yucatán’s most important Mayan sites. Here, admire the Pyramid of the Magician and the intricate carvings of the Governor’s Palace, masterpieces of Puuc architecture. Later, we’ll head toward the Gulf once more to Celestún where you can settle in to witness a spectacular coastal sunset, a memory that captures the essence of a Yucatán adventure.

Day 5: Celestún Mangroves – Merida by Night

Celestún Biosphere Reserve is a vast network of mangroves and waterways home to flamingos, herons, and crocodiles. You will glide along by boat as your guide explains the importance of this fragile ecosystem, a highlight for those seeking Yucatán wildlife. Afterward, enjoy lunch on the beach, savouring the Gulf’s freshest catch. By late afternoon you will continue to Mérida, Yucatán’s bustling capital. In the evening, a group dinner and perhaps on stroll, surrounded by colonial architecture, street music, and the hum of local life.

Day 6: Mérida Experiences – Cenote Swim & Tulum Farewell

Spend the morning exploring Mérida at your own pace, with optional activities that bring the city to life. Join a taco tour to sample regional street food, take a hands-on cooking class, or simply wander its markets and leafy squares. Later, the journey turns east as you head back toward Tulum. En route, stop at a refreshing cenote, one of the region’s iconic sinkholes, for a final swim in crystal-clear waters. The day ends with a farewell dinner in Tulum, where the group gathers to toast the journey and reflect on highlights.

Day 7: Departure – Memories of the Yucatán

On your final morning, you will transfer to Tulum Airport or a hotel of your choice in the region. Though the journey has come to a close, you’ll depart with memories of ancient Mayan cities, turquoise lagoons, and the vibrant culture of Mexico’s Yucatán and Campeche.
