About Pixel Expeditions
Pixel Expeditions was born from a shared love of the ocean, wildlife, and exploration. It all started back in 2017, when Luke met Mike (“Desi”) while studying at a maritime school in Florida. Luke encouraged him to try diving, and Desi quickly fell in love with it. By 2021, he was working with Lindblad Expeditions, gaining incredible experience in both the underwater world and wildlife above the surface.
While Luke had always been fascinated by birds, Desi’s passion deepened his own curiosity. Around the same time, Luke was already running trips, but the vision began to expand. Together, they started weaving in visits to Mayan ruins and other unique day trips alongside liveaboard adventures, creating richer, more immersive experiences for travellers.
At the heart of Pixel Expeditions is a personal commitment: to remain deeply environmentally conscious and to inspire the same awareness in others. We believe that exploration should go hand-in-hand with responsibility, and that every journey should leave a positive impact on the places and wildlife we encounter.
Luke Coley
Pixel Expedition’s founder, Luke originates from the picturesque landscapes of England, and has cultivated a multifaceted career as a cameraman, divemaster, and wildlife guide since 2012. With a profound passion for both the natural world and visual storytelling, Luke's journey began among the rolling hills and coastal waters of his homeland.
Combining his skills in cinematography with his expertise in marine biology and wildlife photography, Luke leads expeditions that offer a unique blend of underwater exploration and avian observation. Whether capturing the vibrant life beneath the ocean's surface or documenting the graceful flight of coastal birds, Luke's work captures in equal parts excitement and serenity. He is passionate about teaching photography in with an ethical approach, to leave as little impact on the environment as possible.
