Your Day Trip to Tulum, Muyil and Sian Ka’an with Pixel Expeditions

This full-day adventure is the perfect mix of history, culture, and nature. It is a chance to see the Yucatán beyond the resorts and really connect with its past and present.

We begin at the Tulum Ruins, one of the most iconic archaeological sites in Mexico. Perched dramatically on limestone cliffs above the turquoise Caribbean, Tulum is the only major Mayan city built by the sea. With the help of our local guide, you’ll uncover its fascinating history, learning how it functioned as both a trading hub and a ceremonial centre. Of course, there’s also time to enjoy those sweeping ocean views and take photos that do justice to this spectacular setting.

Next, we leave the coastline behind and head into the jungle to explore the Muyil Ruins. Far less visited than Tulum, Muyil feels like a secret garden of temples, plazas, and pathways hidden among lush vegetation. This is where the jungle begins to take over. It’s quiet, green, and alive with bird calls. For those interested, there’s even the chance to do a bit of birding here before we continue.

The final chapter of the day unfolds in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Mexico’s largest protected ecosystems. Here you’ll trade walking for floating as we drift gently along freshwater canals once used by the Maya as transport routes. Surrounded by mangroves and lagoons, it’s an experience that feels timeless. As you glide, keep an eye out for herons, kingfishers, fish darting below, and the intricate roots of the mangrove forests.

Between stops we’ll break for snacks and a traditional lunch. Whether tacos or a traditional dish, it’s fuel for the senses as much as the stomach. By the time we return, you’ll have explored world-famous ruins, wandered hidden temples, and floated through one of the most pristine natural landscapes in the region.

It’s not just a tour; it’s a journey through centuries of Mayan heritage and the wild heart of the Yucatán.

What makes this tour truly special is the variety… from the world-famous Tulum Ruins to the hidden jungle temples of Muyil, and finally the surreal experience of floating through Sian Ka’an’s shimmering canals. It’s not just sightseeing, it’s immersion. You’ll explore, learn, relax, and connect with Mexico’s past and present in one incredible day.
