Liveaboard expeditions

Hammerheads, tiger sharks, oceanic mantas and a full moon spawning, on five boats you can look up before you book.

Malpelo is 500 km off Colombia. Cocos is 550 km off Costa Rica, with a 32- to 36-hour crossing each way. The far south of the Maldives needs a domestic flight and overnight runs between atolls. What’s the solution?

You sleep on the boat, wake up at the dive site and do three or four dives a day. In Palau, the boat lets us be in the water at sunrise and after dark, when the spawning and the blackwater dives happen.

How hard is the diving?

None of our current expeditions suits a new diver. All of them have strong current, blue water, or both, and crews can keep you out of a dive when either conditions or your skills call for it.

The Maldives sets the clearest bar: Advanced Open Water, 50 logged dives and experience in strong current. Use that as your guide for Palau, Malpelo and Cocos too. Socorro welcomes any certified diver with good buoyancy, but be aware that some of its dives still have strong current and surge.

If you're not there yet, tell us what you've done and we'll guide you on which trip to aim for.
